Whitewater

After exploring all the facets of traditional Breton music, and then all its possible connections with contemporary music, Erwan Keravec offers a more intimate approach to the instrument—here, at least, a contemplative one.
Whitewater is steeped in an aquatic atmosphere, in a vein that alternates between swirling currents and meditative moments. The title "whitewater," meaning "white waters," reflects this state of mind.

“Whitewater,” Erwan Keravec’s new work, quite literally runs like a fast river, with an intense, bubbling energy. This record, radical yet breathtakingly beautiful, collides head-on with listening habits that have become dramatically conformist.

One must follow this bagpipe, let oneself be gradually carried by its unheard-of flow, its hypnotic speed, and understand that it is an inner experience. That it ultimately connects to one’s own chaos, and channels it with a staggering, piercing brilliance.

It is extreme, at the borders of music and astonishing magnetic fluctuations. Yet this continuum is rich with nearly infinite nuances, with countless sonic elements that all seem meticulously ordered. It creates a movement that draws you in until you reach contemplation.

A kind of inner peace, without ever stripping away the wild vitality of this music. And that is the true greatness of “Whitewater.” It embraces and sweeps up every storm, passes through every crevice, turning accidents into strength and speed into an ally. In its course, it mutates and becomes calm, like a form of fulfillment — having transformed obstacles and turbulence into points of leverage for moving forward.

We have long been captivated by Erwan Keravec’s universe. “Whitewater” will only intensify this deep fascination for a music in which all opposites work together, where ceaseless movements and intimate tensions create a stunning and coherent aesthetic.
